In honor of National Women’s History Month, we are honoring some of the many talented women who work for the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office through a series of interviews entitled: “The Women of CCPO”
Today, we recognize Sergeant Fawn Landay.
What does Women’s History Month mean to you?
Fawn: While the concept of Women’s History Month is nice, I believe showing appreciation to the women who have paved the way for future generations is something that should be celebrated every day of the year.
What woman did you admire growing up and why?
Fawn: I can’t choose just one, I admired all the women in my family growing up. They were all amazing examples of strong, independent and diverse people. They each showed me how to care for family and friends and contribute to society.
Describe your role at the CCPO:
Fawn: My job title is Sergeant of the Special Victims Unit, but I feel my true role is to lead by example and to help develop the younger generation at our office into excellent detectives. In addition to my many responsibilities at the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, I am also an instructor at the Police Academy.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Fawn: The most rewarding part of my job is helping save children from physically, sexually and mentally abusive homes. No matter what, that will always be the most rewarding part of my job. Children are innocent human beings who depend on adults to protect them.
What is your message to young girls interested in pursuing a career path like yours (or to young women in general)?
Fawn: I would tell any young woman out there that there are no occupations you cannot do. Do not expect any more or any less because of your gender. Work hard and be persistent in whatever path you take. And regardless of the situation before you, always maintain your integrity.
